چکیده
0 K(τ)s(t− τ)dτ, (1) where s(t) is the input signal, r(t) is the output signal, and K(·) is the linear kernel of the system that can be measured by using a Dirac-δ function δ(·) or any type of white noise (not necessarily gaussian) as the input signal. We take the convolution in Eq. (1) starting from 0 instead of −∞ in order to satisfy the causality condition: the input signal in the future will not affect the output response in the past.

Receptive Field Encoding Model for Dynamic Natural Vision
Introduction: Encoding models are used to predict human brain activity in response to sensory stimuli. The purpose of these models is to explain how sensory information represent in the brain. Convolutional neural networks trained by images are capable of encoding magnetic resonance imaging data of humans viewing natural images. Considering the hemodynamic response function, these networks are ...
متن کاملAn analysis of neural receptive field plasticity by point process adaptive filtering.
Neural receptive fields are plastic: with experience, neurons in many brain regions change their spiking responses to relevant stimuli. Analysis of receptive field plasticity from experimental measurements is crucial for understanding how neural systems adapt their representations of relevant biological information. Current analysis methods using histogram estimates of spike rate functions in n...
متن کاملNonlinear Hebbian Learning as a Unifying Principle in Receptive Field Formation
The development of sensory receptive fields has been modeled in the past by a variety of models including normative models such as sparse coding or independent component analysis and bottom-up models such as spike-timing dependent plasticity or the Bienenstock-Cooper-Munro model of synaptic plasticity. Here we show that the above variety of approaches can all be unified into a single common pri...
متن کاملThe Optimal Fitting Model for Aging-related Receptive Field Size Curve of Macaque V1 Neurons
Visual function in humans degrades during the early stage of senescence beginning from middle 50s to 60s. Generally,it may derive from the general decline of cortex inhibition, which destroys the balance between excitation and inhibition system in the brain. To date, the optimal fitting model of receptive field size curve is not clear during different age groups. To address this issue, firstly,we ...
متن کاملCorrelation-dependent reorganization and receptive field convergence
When a neuron could be recorded stably for sufficient time we verified our hand-plotted estimates of receptive field location using an automated stimulus presentation/response collation system (see Supplementary Methods online). As illustrated by the examples shown in Supplementary Figure 1, the two methods of estimating receptive field location show a close correspondence. We measured the disc...
متن کاملUnderstanding the Effective Receptive Field in Deep Convolutional Neural Networks
We study characteristics of receptive fields of units in deep convolutional networks. The receptive field size is a crucial issue in many visual tasks, as the output must respond to large enough areas in the image to capture information about large objects. We introduce the notion of an effective receptive field, and show that it both has a Gaussian distribution and only occupies a fraction of ...
